Introduction

Hey there everyone. This blog will be as much a personal jounral as a true blog - but I hope that those of you who stumble upon it will find it interesting.

Since this is my first post - a little about myself: I am 30-something lawyer at a large international law firm in New York. I'm originally from the midwest and love living in NYC. Moving up here is definitely one of the best decisions I've made. The diversity and energy in the city are simply amazing.

Its a little ironic that going to lawschool and signing up to work at a huge law firm (what we like to call BigLaw) is what made moving to the City possible. I say its ironic because, quite frankly, working at BigLaw has not been the best move. The job doesn't match up with my personal strengths. Even if it did, though, I simply enjoy living life too much to work the kind of hours that BigLaw requires (80 hour weeks are not uncommon).

So, that brings us to where we are today and the title of this blog. Even though partnership is within sight for me - I'm moving on with my career. I'm not entirely sure where the next step will lead me but I'm exploring all sorts of options. Even the prospect of exploring where my career and life will go from here has me very excited.

This blog will be initially about that search and then the transition to not working at BigLaw. I hope that it will be about a lot more than that too - life in the city, politics, movies, great restaurants... all the kinds of things that I hope to spend a lot more time doing in JD Rehab.
